Episode 031: Lauren Sesselmann - The Woman Behind the Cleats

May 25, 2017
00:0000:00

Lauren Sesselmann @lsesselmann is a defender for the Canadian national soccer team and plays in the new NWSL (National Woman's Soccer League). She won a bronze medal in the 2012 Olympics and a gold medal in the 2011 Pan-America Games at Guadalajara.

Lauren is more than just a hard-working athlete. She is a fitness instructor (just releasing her second Fit as a Pro program), a mentor - focusing on helping younger girl athletes find success in sports, a growing influencer via social media, an actress, and TV host.

Soccer is the most prolific sport around the world and reaching new heights in North America. But woman's soccer, though growing rapidly, is still stuck with a negative stigma in the quality of play. The bus and Lauren challenge this notion while exploring woman's sports science and injury recovery compared to men's (such as ACL tears are greater during menstrual cycles).

This episode not only explores Lauren's injuries and experiences as a woman in sports, it also takes a look into her depression and coinciding new confidence and creativity as she approaches retirement. Lauren's passion is mentoring and we also talk about everything from racism and sexism to nutrition, dating, social media, acting, and her side projects.

Lauren was one of the most fun people we've had in the studio thus far. She is intelligent, motivational, hard-working, insightful, funny, and has no problem pointing out the bus driver being in love. You're going to absolutely love this show.

This episode we learned some of the same struggles we had from a previous Olympic hopeful, Jared Firestone. Take a look at his episode here if you'd like to listen to another sports topic.

Episode 030: Mikela Warman - 20Something Perils Through Microinfluencers, Digital Trends, and the Saturated Media Market

May 18, 2017
00:0000:00

Mikela Warman is co-founder and VP of Brand Management at 20Something, a digital media hub, and lifestyle brand.

Millenials have long been touted as the entitled generation, but is that true? Are the generational lines blurred?

Mikela believes that 20somethings are just getting comfortable socially by way of sharing and social media interaction. They used to be scared of judgment, but as times change, they adapted and gained more self-awareness which caused self-growth. Through the forfeiture of privacy (Mikela sees this as a positive) we are seeing a side of other humans we didn't see before.

Mikela is a bright and fantastic speaker who has also worked as a writer. She prides herself in trying to maintain a neurtal stance which is difficult in a world of media and fake news.

This episode includes the hot topic of social Darwinism, and looks at digital trends in a fast paced future, owning your own ideas, micro influencers, and the saturated market of information.

For Another episode in social media and branding -- peep the recent one with Zach Weinberg, head of New Media at Ziggy Marley's label, Tuff Gong Worldwide.

Bus Weekly Fuel:

We are eating Pili nuts, which are wild harvested in the Philipines by hand from the rainforest, sprouted/activated, and mixed with a touch of extra virgin coconut oil and Himalayan salt. The result is a rich buttery taste, unlike any other nut.

The video we can't stop watching is the, "history of the entire world, i guess". This psychedelic history of the touches on fields of biology, chemistry, physics and philosophy in a comical fun fashion.

The blog we are reading is, The Mouthy Mountaineer, written by Colby Wohlleb a former accountant, entrepreneur, coach who is currently hiking the Applachian Trail.

Episode 029: Diego Orlandini - Pocket Philosophy

May 13, 2017
00:0000:00

Diego Orlandini is Chief Book Giver (aka CEO) of Aimful Coloring Books, a Wynwood Miami-based coloring book company. He is a writer, social entrepreneur, and pocket philosopher

What makes Diego unique is his willingness to forgo his true love of writing to dedicate his time resources and energy to a socially conscious business. For every coloring book his company sells, they donate a textbook in the developing world (ala the Toms Shoe's model).
cleardot.gif

His story on how he became a coloring enthusiast (a form of dynamic meditation) sits perfectly with his personality. When he's not working to achieve this mission, he writes in his personal blog about love, the human experience, and his travels.

This conversation his highly philosophical. Some might say it's philosophical bullshit. We ponder social respect, creating legacy, universal knowledge and consciousness among other arcane topics.

Please enjoy this one

Looking for another social philosophy conversation between friends? Our episode with Darryll Fish - The Power of Awareness is our most popular episode of all time. Give it a listen

Episode 027: Zach Weinberg - The Evolution of Media in Big Music and the Marleys

April 28, 2017
00:0000:00

The Bus talks with Zach WeinbergHead of New Media at Tuff Gong Worldwide - Ziggy Marley's record label. Music is evolving rapidly as social media and new streaming tools converge... and Zach is sitting at the forefront of this evolution. Besides new media, Zach is also one of the historians for the Marley estate and their licenses and works with major industry leaders like Universal Music, WME, and others.

"Music is a marketing tool," in this day and age and this leaves many questions about where the industry is headed, for artists, consumers, and marketers alike. Such questions as: How will music evolve and survive in the day of low-cost streaming? How do we find new fans through rapid changing market preferences? What are technologies coming out to disrupt the market?

There is another battle going on though; the battle between art and making that art seen by the world. So how do you merge raw talent with what the market wants - without removing their artistic integrity? These are just a few of the many questions we ponder in this episode.

As with all of our guests - we explore Zach's love and interest in his occupation and how he reached his current role. This bus ride also explores the potential for A.I in the music industry. As a coup de grace to an incredible episode... Zach gives us some historic and detailed cognizance into the rise of Bob Marley.

This is an interesting take on the social + marketing side of music.  We also had a conversation with Joe Silberzweig, marketing manager for Live Nation and festival promoter extraordinaire that you can check out if you enjoyed this conversation.
