#059 - Bryan Shay - Livin High On The Bus

April 17, 2018
00:0000:00

Livin out your best life seems easy in theory, but in practice it's MUCH much harder to do.

This episode features another visitor that joined us in South America for an extensive period On the Bus. Bryan Shay, also known as Live High Bry (@livehighbry), makes his triumphant return to the podcast as well. Bry spent the last 5 weeks traveling through Peru, Bolivia, and Chile with us. During his time he experienced the entire spectrum of physical and mental ups and downs, from 2 disheartening stuck-in-the-mud moments to the stunning Uyuni Salt flats.

Bry is the owner over at Live High, a lifestyle brand focused on "inspiring you to do what you love."

They have 3 main principles

  1.  acting on the things that bring you excitement, happiness or joy
  2.  to follow your passion or excitement
  3.  to be completely engulfed in the moment doing something you love

Bryan also traveled across the continental United States, via bycicle with his younger brother. Along the way sharing stories of unique people he came across. Live High has been featured on News Outlets and Chris Ryan - Tangentially Speaking podcast.

In this episode, we go over the many different ways each of us live out our human experience. We share our opinions on monogamy and sex, love, and other passions. We look at assumptions and interpretations of those around us versus culture and self belief.

Another deep yet comical ride on the bus!

Podcast Location: San Pedro de Atacama Desert, Chile

Episode 027: Zach Weinberg - The Evolution of Media in Big Music and the Marleys

April 28, 2017
00:0000:00

The Bus talks with Zach WeinbergHead of New Media at Tuff Gong Worldwide - Ziggy Marley's record label. Music is evolving rapidly as social media and new streaming tools converge... and Zach is sitting at the forefront of this evolution. Besides new media, Zach is also one of the historians for the Marley estate and their licenses and works with major industry leaders like Universal Music, WME, and others.

"Music is a marketing tool," in this day and age and this leaves many questions about where the industry is headed, for artists, consumers, and marketers alike. Such questions as: How will music evolve and survive in the day of low-cost streaming? How do we find new fans through rapid changing market preferences? What are technologies coming out to disrupt the market?

There is another battle going on though; the battle between art and making that art seen by the world. So how do you merge raw talent with what the market wants - without removing their artistic integrity? These are just a few of the many questions we ponder in this episode.

As with all of our guests - we explore Zach's love and interest in his occupation and how he reached his current role. This bus ride also explores the potential for A.I in the music industry. As a coup de grace to an incredible episode... Zach gives us some historic and detailed cognizance into the rise of Bob Marley.

This is an interesting take on the social + marketing side of music.  We also had a conversation with Joe Silberzweig, marketing manager for Live Nation and festival promoter extraordinaire that you can check out if you enjoyed this conversation.

Episode 021: Tatum Skipper - How to be a Boss Ass Bitch and Travel the World

March 14, 2017
00:0000:00

Tatum Skipper @bonvoyage_bitches is a travel blogger known for her unique and sassy writing style that utilizes offensive language, brutal honesty, and a perspective opposing what most in her industry blog about. This is why she is crushing it.

Hailing from Atlanta, Ga. She has won a trip to the French Alps, sky dove in Dubai, lived lavishly through Europe and just recently started building out her RV. She's been queened as a "Professional Partier" and shows people that you can travel the world however you want.

There is something uniquely refreshing about someone willing to forgo the facade of perfection while traveling to bring you the no bullshit version. Let's face it, no trip on the road goes as planned. So Tatum is building her BonVoyage Bitches brand through honesty and leaving bad reviews (just kidding - but she will blog about it).

This episode becomes a montage on how to be different in the travel world. We discover how she uses blogging groups and optimization to grow her following and her biggest trick (Hint Hint: Pinterest). What a wild adventure this really was.

You can find Tatum's blog at bonvoyagebitches.com where she writes about places that don't suck and has a segment we love called The Confessional; where you can read about and share crazy, embarrassing, disgusting and just down right dirty horror stories that have happened while traveling.

Travel junkie or just plain frugal? One of our most popular episodes was with Kevin Wong - The Invincible Budget - in which he provides tips and tricks on traveling the world for $25/day.

Episode 019: Darryll Fish - The Power of Awareness

March 1, 2017
00:0000:00

Darryll Fish aka DFish (@darryllfish) is a 31-year-old professional poker player known not only for his skills at the tables but his shrewd social awareness and community building. He spends his time traveling the world playing both tournaments and cash games.

Some of his career highlights include a WSOP Circuit victory in Palm Beach Florida, 2nd place at WPT Montreal, and 3rdplace in the 2013 WSOP $5,000 bracelet event. He is sponsored by Seminole Hard Rock and has recently found himself doing commentary for live stream play-by-play.

His experience playing a game that focuses on the emotions and nuances of his opponents has opened up awareness in other areas of his life (more on this in the show).  Darryll can elegantly connect and engage people from different walks of life inconsequential conversation.

This episode becomes a deeply meaningful conversation that explores the ego (such as Darryll’s poker ego) and different forms of social connection. We do a lot of critical analysis on the generational divide between millennials and their parents while discussing those different mindsets and searching through solutions to work out the differences.

Highlights from this episode include Darryll’s recent poker trip to Australia, resolving deep-rooted pain from childhood, and some tricks for setting intentions.

You can see one of Darryll’s most important poker hands at his 2nd place WPT Montreal finish here.

This is our second episode featuring a professional poker player and there were some interesting similarities and differences between the conversation with Adam Levy and Darryl.
