Episode 018 : Joe Skipper - Crickets and Other Alternative Protein Sources

February 21, 2017
00:0000:00
Sustainability. Sustainability. Sustainability.

It's a topic that is on the tip of many tongues and debated
across an array of industries, especially on buses.

The real question, though, one that we often forget to ask.
What can I personally do, engender a sustainable planet?

This week's guest Joseph Skipper - who also goes by the nickname
Cricket Guy - literally quit his job one day to farm Crickets.
His reasoning? A deep inner yearning to farm coupled with a
desire to create a viable impact on our planet. He is now owner of Seginus Farms @seginusfarms, first urban cricket farm in Florida devoted exclusively to raising human-grade entomological products

Joe recognized that crickets are a sustainable and healthy
source of protein just now starting to be eaten in
The United States. Outside of the U.S. crickets are eaten by billions of people
as both a major source of protein and a delicacy. He wants
to capitalize on a potentially huge growing market while also creating
a positive environmental impact.

In this episode, we talk all things bugs. Heck, we even eat
a few on air. Joe talks insect eating regulations, their
diet, and his experience at the Insect Eating Convention
in Detroit. Among other things - this conversation obviously
becomes a great one about nutritional hacking.

You can find out more @seginusfarms and you can also purchase
the prized Moringa Cricket Power Mix (which we love and use) to make Cricket Brownies.

Here is a good article to learn about the power of cricket protein or visit Grubbly Farms the company from Forbes 30 under 30 positively
impacting the chicken feed industry.

Since we are on a role here with alternative nutrition and medicine.
Our most recent conversation with Danny Perdeck, Owner of Green Roads
World explores how CBD oil provides health hacks.

Episode 010: Kevin Wong - The Invincible Travel Budget

December 12, 2016
00:0000:00

Kevin Wong aka Kwongeroo (more on that nickname in the show) is a 26 year old world traveler from Canada known for his ability to globe trot on a $25USD per day budget.

His keen interest in traversing the world in the cheapest and most fulfilling way possible has unlocked his ability to optimize travel at all levels. Kevin can tell you the most cost effective (and savory) places to eat when you step into a new and foreign place and how to save money on transportation.

His current trip is 20 months long and spans over 50 countries. This episode becomes an insightful conversation about the mission to break the 9-5 job barrier and travel near forever. We make the intrinsic fear on the road something tangible for discussion, whilst breaking down the psychosis of travel anxiety.

Highlights from this episode include how American politics are viewed outside of the U.S. (Spoiler Alert: they care a lot more than we do) including the ripple affect abroad, Kevin's trip to see the Chernobyl Metal Dome, and tips and travel tricks for the newly adjusted backpacker.

Episode 009: Logic For Dinner with Aakash

December 7, 2016
00:0000:00
Aakash is somewhat of an anomoly. He dropped out of a Statistics PH.D at Harvard to become a trader. Soon after, despite wild success, he realized that community wasn't for him (we explore this on the show). Since then he has worked for start-ups optimizing online ads and is currently studying music at the Pyramind Music Production School in San Fransisco.

Aakash is an optimizer to the fullest extent. He applies mathmatical inference to even the most mundane of life's decisions. He has hacked loopholes for free food delivery services, near free cell phone costs, and has access to the lowest feasible flight costs to travel the world.

His unyielding passion for music breaks the barrier between emotion and math. Afterall, music is at its core, intervals, patterns and tone to create harmony.

On "Logic for Dinner" we explore some of his past experiences that have made him who he is today. From living in the Amazon with Brazilian nut foraging tribes to transitioning from Trading into Music, together we explore his reasoning for these decisions. He also schools us on some music insight (we thought we knew a litte something) and touches the taboo topic of Universal Basic Income. And, with his help, Brandon and Daniel discover why they even started a podcast to begin with.

Please enjoy this episode with such an articulate speaker.
